Proposal for a University in a Unique Location. The island of Poveglia, south of Venice, serves as both the backdrop and the central element around which this building is articulated. A construction is proposed that addresses the functional program while fitting into this natural setting in the most respectful and sustainable way possible. Likewise, priority is given to respecting the lagoon environment and the cultural and constructive tradition of Venice. The proposed new building integrates into this natural reserve, resting on wooden pillars. It features an open ground floor, fully permeable and in contact with the terrain. On rainy days, users can take advantage of the covered walkway to cross the island from end to end, or they can seek refuge under the porch, resting and enjoying the landscape on hot days.
The upper levels concentrate most of the program, while also serving to connect and integrate with the existing renovated buildings. The roof is interpreted as a slice of the virgin island, inclined and elevated to a higher level. On the roof, students can continue to enjoy the outdoors, surrounded by nature, observing the native flora from a garden located in a new dimension above the treetops, allowing views to extend towards the sea and Venice.
